What is involved in getting a Porcelain Crown Brisbane?

Consultation Appointment – We offer no obligation complimentary consultation appointment for dental crowns. In this appointment, the Dentist will discuss the different types of crowns available. The Dentist will do an examination to assess what type of crown will be best suited for your tooth. The Dentist will then create a treatment plan for you and discuss the steps involved. If there are any unsatisfactory restorations or fillings in your tooth, then the Dentist might recommend replacing them beforehand. At the end of this appointment, you will be provided with a quotation for the crown.

Crown Preparation Appointment – In this appointment, the Dentist will discuss and take the shade of your crown. The Dentist may also take some photos of your natural teeth to match the shade of the Porcelain Crown. The Dentist will then prepare your tooth and get it ready to receive a crown. This will involve removing a very thin layer of enamel from your tooth all over to provide space for the Porcelain Crown and cement that will bond it to your natural tooth. Once the tooth has been prepared, the Dentist will then take an impression of your teeth or scan them to send it off to the dental laboratory. We use dental laboratories that are based in Australia and use Australian Standard products. After the impression, the Dentist will place a temporary crown on your tooth. You will be provided with verbal and written care instructions for your temporary crown. It can take anywhere between 1-2 weeks for your Porcelain Crown to be ready but if needed, it can be made available within 48 hrs at an additional cost.

Crown Insertion Appointment – At this appointment, the Dentist will remove your temporary crown. After cleaning any residual temporary cement from your tooth, the Dentist will then try in your permanent Porcelain Crown so that you can check it before it is permanently inserted on your tooth. Once the Porcelain Crown has been bonded to your natural tooth, the Dentist will check again that it fits within your bite. You will be provided verbal and written care instructions for your Porcelain Crown.

Crown Follow up Appointment – It is recommended to have regular check ups to make sure that your gums and teeth are healthy and to make any fine adjustments to the bite if needed.
