Your dentist has inserted a permanent crown on your tooth. It is imperative to look after your permanent crown to improve its longevity.
How long will the numbing last?
Depending upon the anaesthetic used by the dentist, it may take anywhere between 1-4 hours for the numbness to fade away.
When can I eat with my new crown?
Please do not eat or drink for 30 minutes after your new crown is cemented. You would be able to eat and enjoy a wide variety of food with your permanent crown, but it would be wise to be careful with crunchy food items like nuts or chewing on bones or ice cubes.
Why does my bite feel different?
Your new crown can feel a little bit harder as compared to the temporary crown because it is made up of a stronger material. Please take care with biting into hard foods for the first couple of days until you are comfortable with the bite. If the bite feels uncomfortable (if it seems high or proud as compared to the rest of your teeth), please call our office immediately to adjust the bite and preferably do not bite on that side until you come in.
What to expect after my permanent crown?
Sensitivity, especially to hot and cold is common after a crown is cemented. The sensitivity usually subsides within a week or two. If this persists beyond two weeks, please call our office immediately.
Why does it feel different?
The finished restoration may be contoured slightly different and have a different texture than the original tooth. Your tongue usually magnifies this small difference, but you will become accustomed to this in a few days.
Can I brush and floss like usual?
Please follow prescribed oral hygiene instructions: 45-degree angle brushing twice a day and flossing once a day to avoid getting a cavity or gum disease around your new crown. Flossing is especially important in preserving the health of your crown or bridge.
