Getting used to your mouthguard
Get used to wearing it as soon as possible. By wearing your mouthguard before your first game you will be less likely to be playing with it during your game time and so will be less distracted by it. You should wear your mouthguard to every game and training
Cleaning the mouthguard
Rinse your mouthguard in cold water after every use. You can use a soft bristled tooth brush to gently clean it with plain water. Avoid using any abrasive tooth pastes. You can also use store bought mouthguard cleaning wipes. Avoid rinsing it with hot water or exposing it to heat. Please do not machine wash or place in dishwasher.
Storing your mouthguard
When you are not using your mouthguard, please keep it back in the container for protection and safe keeping. Avoid leaving your mouthguard in places where the temperatures can rise such as a windowsill with direct sunshine or a car.
Replacement
If your mouthguard is broken or does not fit well, please replace it. In a growing child, as new teeth will erupt, mouthguard may need to be replaced. In older children and adults, mouthguard will wear down with use and should be checked annually by the dentist.
If you have a severe knock or collision, advise your parent, coach, trainer, manager or staff as soon as possible. If you have a collision, go and see your dentist for an assessment and possibly an X-Ray to assess the situation within 48 hours.
